Statement: Texas House advances HB 3

The Texas House of Representatives voted today on Chairman Dan Huberty’s House Bill 3. Dubbed “The Texas Plan,” HB 3 would provide over $9 billion in new state funds for education. Following the vote, Texas Aspires’ Executive Director Will Fullerton released the following statement:

“The Texas House has taken a monumental step forward in passing House Bill 3. We commend the House for including key reforms in the bill: high-quality pre-k for the students who need it most, tools to determine kindergarten readiness, early literacy investments, and adjusted funding for our state’s economically disadvantaged students. We believe the teacher compensation components could be more strategic and look forward to continuing the conversation during the legislative process about how the state can invest in teachers in ways we know improve student achievement.”
